Hi! My name is Candice Lewis, and I am the owner of Moon Baby Doulas, and I am the founder and the event director of Everything Baby Expo in Denver, Colorado. When I had my first kid – well it was really my second kid – I had some symptoms of postpartum depression, and I saw how it affected my relationships with the community, how it affected how I took care of myself, and also how I took care of my children. Not to say they were neglected, but I felt like I could always provide more and do more for them. So empowering mothers is not just about starting businesses, it’s about making sure they find their power, and when times get hard they know how to push through it. We built this civilization, and if we ain’t right, nobody gonna be right.
Everything that I do… talking to people, interacting with people, loving on people… I always say tribe, tribe love! I want my children to see that. I want them to see that it’s ok to be nice. I wish that they become – which I know they are right now, but I want them to stay this way – loving individuals. Loving, understanding, caring, supportive, nurturing individuals, because we need more of that, there’s not enough of it. And I wish that for my kids and I wish the same for them. I wish that when they grow up -promise not to cry – ’cause one day they’re gonna become men! I want them to receive that back. So all this love that I pour into them, and all this love that they will pour into their friends and their inner actions to interactions, I want them to find the people that will give them that love back, and make them feel good. Make them feel like they have a purpose. That is what I wish for my sons.
