The Motherhood Directory

I’ll never forget that moment

I was awake at 3:00 am with an inconsolable baby. She was my first child, and I lived thousands of miles away from family.

Our breastfeeding relationship had gotten off to a very rocky start – my daughter was tongue-tied, though no one had told me that for the first four weeks.

She couldn’t control the flow of milk, which meant I was essentially fire-hosing her at every feeding. She would clamp down to stop the flow and repeatedly sputter and gasp for air. Eventually, she developed reflux, and I developed vasospasms — in other words, nerve damage on top of nipples that were already cracked and bleeding.

Needless to say, every feeding was painful for both of us. So there I was, at 3:00 in the morning, at the end of my rope.

I didn’t know what to do to give her relief, and I had no one to call. I felt desperate, alone, and so very exhausted. In that moment, I remember looking at my phone, thinking: Where is my village now, when I need them the most?

Turning a mess into a mission

I knew I wasn’t the only mom who had felt this way. So I set out to create a digital village of support for moms…

>Well, let’s be honest. I didn’t create anything for another two years until I was able to sleep more than 5 hours in a stretch.

But that moment, in the middle of the night, has never left me. I remember it so clearly. And I am proud to say we’ve created the digital village of moms and experts I always wished I’d had.

The Motherhood Directory connects women to their local professionals who can help them navigate challenges in the postpartum period and beyond.

What started as a postpartum directory of lactation consultants and pelvic floor specialists has grown to include services that will support you and your child at every stage.

Search by state, type of service, or business name to locate the experts in your community who will form the pillars of support for your motherhood journey.
